The Importance Of A Healthy Development For Children s...
1. Introduction Toddlerhood is an important stage in a childââ¬â¢s life for the development of skills needed throughout their lifetime. That is why it is very important to promote a healthy development for each of the development areas. This report presents information on toddlers and how they develop in each of the different development domains, cognitive, physical, language and social-emotional. It looks at the theories created by Jean Piaget, Arnold Gesell, Noam Chomsky and Erik Erikson to help support the different developments. Lastly, provides strategies that early childhood teachers can use to help support a childââ¬â¢s development. 2. Cognitive Development By the time a child becomes a toddler, they already have an understanding of the world around them. During this time their cognitive development is continuing to grow and become more pronounced. They become aware of cause and effect, and start associating objects with their function. Toddlers are still continuing with physical activities and exploring, they are beginning to enjoy solving simple thinking problems (Gonzalez-Mena, 2010). It also gives toddlers the ability to learn new skills and build on their understanding of events which are occurring in the environment around them. Teaching them to solve their own problems and helps improve on their long term memory. 2.1 Piagetââ¬â¢s Theory on Cognitive Development One of the theories for cognitive development was developed by phycologist Jean Piaget.
